ASC

ASC (formerly Australian Submarine Corporation) has contributed significantly to South Australia’s reputation as Australia's 'defence state'.

ASC designed and manufactured the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet of six Collins Class submarines – a project conceived in 1982, begun in 1987 and completed in 2003.

It then commenced a 25-year, multi-billion dollar contract for the through-life support of the Collins Class submarines.

ASC was selected as the shipbuilder for the RAN’s Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Program in 2005.  This program is expected to increase ASC’s workforce to 2,000 and provide enormous opportunities for Australia’s shipbuilding industry.

Its operations at Osborne form a major part of Techport Australia, the South Australian Government’s purpose built naval and defence industry hub.

ASC is now Australia’s largest specialised defence shipbuilding organisation, with naval design and engineering capability unparalleled in the nation’s defence industry.
