Rising Sun Pictures

Founded in 1995, Adelaide-based Rising Sun Pictures provides visual effects and animation to some of the world’s best-known film companies, including Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Fox and Paramount.

It has won acclaim for its work in internationally released films of the calibre of Superman Returns, Charlotte’s Web, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Rising Sun Pictures was awarded the Austrade Arts, Entertainment and Design Award at the 2006 Australian Export Awards.

The company received a grant of $2.3 million in 2008 from the South Australian Innovation and Investment Fund to help it expand its operations and create at least 50 new skilled jobs within three years.

CEO Didier Elzinga says Rising Sun is establishing its own training programs for animation and other special effects experts, and to create an in-house “incubator” for local industry training.

Mr Elzinga says Rising Sun Pictures now attracts talent from around the world, with people coming to Adelaide from Germany, France, Italy, England and the United States.

In February 2011 the company won a Sci-Tech Oscar, an award recognising scientific and technical innovation that has a lasting impact on the motion picture industry.
